Minuit Sur Les Toits is Triple FX’s new album and I’m very happy to present it to you. This is the band’s 3rd album and we spent a great amount of time preparing the recording. For the previous albums, I used to make demo songs at home and Gaël had to work mainly on his own because we didn’t have the opportunity to get together as a band. So we never really could go into detail. But this time, we managed to do things differently and worked out the material as a real band. Some of the songs required more effort and investment on our part to get them sound right. Tunes like Maelstrom or Closer To You were almost complete but others like Minuit sur les toits, Derniers Instants and White Bird were very emotional and hard to interpret. It took us many constructive discussions to define everyone’s role and contribution to the songs.
I feel honored that I got to spend so much time with Gaël and JC. We all wanted to transcend the music and so we worked hard but always in a relaxed and positive atmosphere. During the rehearsals, I could feel the energy coming out from the band and each one of us set his mind to achieve something great. The concentration level was pretty high. Focusing on details kept us busy for weeks until we could play the music naturally. It may seem trivial but we had to explore different structures, keys, tones and atmospheres to sound evocative, which can be difficult when it comes to instrumental music given the absence of words and lyrics.
Each title has its own story of course and sometimes reflects a particular moment. But as a composer, I wanted to tackle other themes, some based on things that I have experienced in life, others just imagined. Derniers Instants is about how you feel when you’re just about to say goodbye to someone you love and you know you will never see again. Maelstrom tries to recreate the tension that comes from a reality you try to escape but which always catches up with you. Minuit Sur Les Toits is something I’ve had in mind for years. It’s a picture of a mysterious, calm and late-night atmosphere. 333 is certainly more extreme and brings an experimental touch to the album. White Bird deals with the end of life.
At the end of the day, I’m really thrilled with what we’ve created. Making such an album is a tremendous achievement. The fact that we have overcome all our personal, spiritual and musical limits gives me a deep and intense feeling of fulfillment. It also gives meaning to who I am eventually; a guitarist.

Minuit sur les toits est le nouvel album de Triple FX et je suis ravi de pouvoir vous le présenter. C’est le 3e album du groupe et celui que nous avons le mieux préparé. Dans les formations précédentes du trio, je maquettais les titres chez moi et chacun devait les préparer de son côté car nous n’avions pas la possibilité de nous réunir. Cette fois-ci, nous avons réalisé un vrai travail de groupe et préparé l’enregistrement dans les meilleures conditions. Certains titres nous ont demandé plus d’efforts et d’investissement que d’autres pour les faire « sonner ». Des morceaux tels que Maelstrom ou Closer To You étaient déjà assez aboutis, mais d’autres comme Minuit sur les toits, Derniers Instants et White Bird, très dépouillés et à forte charge émotionnelle, ont nécessité de notre part un effort dans l’interprétation et généré beaucoup de discussions constructives, chacun comprenant ce qu’il devait apporter.
Je me sens privilégié d’avoir passé tout ce temps avec Gaël et JC. Nous avons travaillé sur la durée, avec l’envie de tirer la machine vers le haut, mais dans une décontraction totale. Pendant les répétitions, j’étais très sensible à l’énergie que dégageait le groupe, et surtout à cette volonté commune et inébranlable de réaliser quelque chose ensemble. La concentration était immense. Le moindre détail nous a parfois occupés pendant des semaines, jusqu’à ce que nous arrivions à tout oublier pour simplement jouer au service des titres. Ça semble banal mais, pour y arriver, il nous a fallu explorer les morceaux dans tous les sens, tenter d’autres possibilités, varier les sonorités à l’infini pour être évocateurs à l’arrivée, ce qui est une tâche ardue en musique instrumentale, les mots n’étant pas présents.
Chaque titre a sa petite histoire et reflète bien sûr un moment particulier mais j’ai voulu aborder d’autres émotions, certaines vécues personnellement et d’autres simplement imaginées. En ce sens, Derniers Instants évoque la tristesse et l’appréhension à l’approche de la séparation entre deux êtres. Maelstrom recrée la tension que l’on ressent quand une réalité nous rattrape alors qu’on cherchait à la fuir. Minuit Sur Les Toits renvoie à une image qui m’a toujours fasciné, celle de la contemplation nocturne d’un univers mystérieux et serein. 333 est un morceau plus extrême et ambitieux qui apporte une touche expérimentale à l’album. Dans White Bird, c’est le thème de la fin de vie qui est au cœur du titre.
Pour conclure, je suis fier de ce que nous avons créé. Réaliser un tel album est un accomplissement véritable. Franchir toutes les difficultés personnelles, spirituelles, musicales et matérielles pour le mettre au monde me donne l’impression d’atteindre une forme de vérité existentielle. Et donne du sens à ce que je suis en définitive : un guitariste.
